3 Simple Ways To Use Essential Oils To Help Your Workouts

There’s nothing like that feeling after you’ve worked out – you’re all proud of yourself, energized and your body is thanking you. Oxygen is pumping and the endorphins (hopefully) are flowing! But let’s face it, sometimes just getting your running shoes on and getting out the door, or making it to your gym class can be challenging; and sometimes, we feel a bit more worn out afterwards than we hoped. Here are 3 simple ways to use essential oils to help your workouts that I can personally vouch for – they’re simple, not time-consuming, but will help you to get the most out of your workouts, and help the recovery afterwards.

  1. Energy – before your work out, sniff some peppermint or an invigorating blend – it really helps to pep you up and get you wide awake! I actually like to put a drop of peppermint between my palms, rub them together and then rub it onto my shoulders. I find that to be relaxing for my muscles, but energizing for my mind. It also helps to support clear breathing during exercise, which comes in very handy for these cold weather workouts.

  2. Hydration – during your workout, add lemon oil to your water to help stay hydrated. It also makes your water taste more interesting so that you’re more likely to drink! I actually like to use the Slim and Sassy blend for this too – it’s a metabolic blend that is energizing and helps keep blood sugar regulated and energy levels up.

  3. Recovery – sore, achy muscles can be a not-so-much-fun part of working out. Deep Blue oil blend or Deep Blue rub is the simplest, go-to remedy to help. I love the roller bottle for tight lower back muscles first thing in the morning (sometimes I feel like an old lady when I get out of bed). Then for larger muscle areas like tired, achy legs, I use the Deep Blue cream. On really big exercise days – I go for the super-duper extra strength approach and layer fractionated coconut oil with frankincense, lemongrass and marjoram; then add a layer of Deep Blue rub on top of that. It works amazingly well.

Especially when many of us set bigger exercise goals in the new year, there might be more sore muscles to fix! Simple tricks like this can make your life a little easier and give you more joy in your exercise regimen.
