DIY Essential Oil Reed Diffusers

health care self care tips Mar 23, 2016

I’m a complete sucker for reed diffusers – to the point where I will bring a particular brand of reed diffuser home in my suitcase when I make trips to Australia, carefully wrapping them up in bubble wrap and praying that they don’t get smooshed in my case! I love they’re just there all the time, I don’t need to put the oil in or plug them in, and they create a beautiful scent that fills the room. However, many reed diffusers (including my favorite Aussie ones) are scented with artificial fragrances, which are going to contain chemicals. There is a healthier option, however – DIY essential oil reed diffusers!

Making your own reed diffusers is so quick, easy and inexpensive. The nice thing is that you know then that the scents you’re taking in are not artificial or chemical in any way. Plus you can be really creative about making your own blends!

All you’ll need is –

  • 1/4 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 15 drops essential oil
  • Reed diffuser sticks

Just mix the coconut oil and essential oils in a glass container (remember, don’t use plastic!). Add the sticks. It might take a while for the oil to travel up the stick and start putting out fragrance, but hang in there!! Then make sure to flip the sticks every few days.

The classics to use would be lavender, lemongrass, citrus oils, and florals such as jasmine. I love woody, earthy scents, so I would be inclined to mix in some cedarwood or sandalwood. I can smell Douglas fir all day long and that would be amazing in a reed diffuser!!

Get mixing and swizzling and freshen up every room in your house!!
