Do you love a cup of peppermint tea after dinner to settle your stomach and help your digestion? Did you know that 1 drop of peppermint essential oil is the equivalent of 27 cups of peppermint tea? 1 drop in a cup of water, cold or warm, will give you a much better result with much less. Peppermint is actually a really versatile essential oil with lots of different applications. Here are five everyday uses for peppermint essential oil:

1. Digestive Health

Well known to settle and calm the digestive system, peppermint can be helpful for occasional nausea or stomach upset. It promotes healthy digestion, which is why so many people like to have peppermint after a meal. Peppermint can be put in water and drank, or it can be put in a capsule and swallowed.

2. For Cooling

Peppermint has cooling properties due to its high menthol content. This oil is so lovely on a hot summers day – you can make a spray bottle and spritz your face throughout the day (be sure to close your eyes!). I know of ladies who have episodes of body heat due to hormonal issues who love having peppermint around for this exact purpose.

3. Energizer

Peppermint has uplifting, energizing and invigorating properties. My favorite is to put a drop in my hand, rub my palms together and then rub the oil on my shoulders. It is relaxing for the muscles but very energizing to mind and mood.

4. Oral Health

Peppermint is renowned for its extensive use in toothpaste and mouthwash. A great mouthwash is simply to add 1 drop of peppermint and 1 drop of lemon to some water and swish around your mouth. You could also add a drop on your toothbrush along with your toothpaste, or simply put a drop directly in your mouth after eating for fresh breath.

5. Head tension

Peppermint can definitely help alleviate head tension when used topically, either on the temples of the base of the skull. Just a drop or two is enough since it’s so potent. Just make sure not to get peppermint oil too close to your eye and that would not feel good! If it does happen, add coconut oil (or olive oil or other) to it to dilute it out – don’t rinse with water.

Peppermint is one of the most popular essential oils and with good reason – it’s uplifting and energizing, and has lots of health benefits.
