Non-Toxic Play Dough and Bubbles For The Kids

I don’t know about you, but I’m not crazy about some of the things that my daughter loves the most – bubbles, play dough, slime and the like. I don’t have a problem with her playing with them, but I worry about how they’re made and what’s in them. Plus, never mind that one of our dogs has a penchant for play dough and eats it right off the table if said toddler leaves it out. I love being able to make non-toxic play dough and bubbles for the kids – that way I know if the play dough ends up in their mouth (or the dog’s mouth), they’re not getting a bunch of chemicals. We also have fun making it especially when friends are over. Here are some easy recipes:

Bubbles

• 1 cup warm water
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 2 tablespoons doTERRA OnGuard foaming hand soap

Simply mix sugar in warm water until dissolved. Add the foaming hand soap, and voila, it’s ready to use with a bubble wand!

Play Dough

• 2 cups flour
• 2 cups colored water
• 1 cup salt
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 5 drops of your favorite essential oil (hint – use lavender later in the day for a calm kid! Wild orange would be nice too)

Combine everything except the essential oil in a large saucepan and stir until combined. Heat over medium heat. Continue to stir with a spatula until a ball is formed.

Remove from heat and cool on parchment paper. Once cool, add 5 drops of essential oil and knead until fully combined.

Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

Slime

• 2 cups arrowroot powder
• 1-2 cups water
• 1 teaspoon dried herbs
• 3 drops essential oil of your choice

Add arrowroot powder to a shallow dish. Add dried herbs for color, then combine. Add the essential oil. Slowly add water until you get the desired slimy consistency.

You can use spirulina powder to make green slime or beet powder for red slime.
