Spruce Your Kitchen Up With Essential Oils

others Mar 16, 2017

No one likes a smelly, grimy kitchen – but many of the traditional cleaners are full of harsh chemicals and fake fragrances, all which can be highly toxic. Here are some ways to spruce your kitchen up with essential oils. They make great cleaning agents, and leave a natural, fresh scent.

Oven Cleaner Spray

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon castille soap
  • 5 drops clove essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a glass spray bottle; shake well before using. Spray liberally in the oven, let sit 15 minutes and then wipe clean.

Oven Cleaner Paste

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap or castille soap
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl to form a paste. Apply with a sponge and let sit up to 30 minutes. Wipe off with a clean cloth or sponge and water.

Grill Cleaner

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons natural dish detergent
  • 5 drops lemon essential oil
  • Distilled white vinegar

Combine the first three ingredients. Add vinegar until the mixture has an olive oil-like consistency. Brush mixture onto metal grill and let sit 15-30 minutes. Use a damp scouring pad or grill brush to scrub the surface clean, then rinse with water.

Garbage Can Odor-eater

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup epsom salts
  • 1/4 cups water
  • 10 drops lemon or grapefruit essential oil
  • 5 drops peppermint oil
  • Ice cube tray

Combine dry ingredients. Slowly add water, then oils, and stir. Using a spoon, transfer mixture into ice cube tray without overfilling the tray. Allow to dry overnight or until hardened. Place 1-2 tablets in the bottom of the garbage bin and store the rest in an airtight container. Replace as needed.

Sticker and Goo Remover

This one might not apply if you don’t have toddlers around putting their stickers on everything.

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 drops lemon essential oil

Mix in small bowl. Apply to sticker or goo, let sit 1-2 minutes, then wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel.

Drain Cleaner

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 distilled white vinegar
  • 3 drops orange essential oil

Pour essential oil directly down the drain, followed by baking soda, then vinegar. Allow to sit for 15 minutes. Pour hot water down the drain, followed by cold water.

I hope this gives you some new ideas and helps you to detox your cleaning products and your home. Happy cleaning!
